Monday, June 12, 2017. What is the center of life? It is the love of God and the love of our human brothers and sisters. It is a balanced way, which gains personal freedom. The invitation stands to us: come and see. Christ Jesus is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Christian life in practice …
The New Testament is a fantastic place to find good advice for daily life. It touches so many layers of our life - and you find a mixture of deep and ground breaking simple ideas of truth and life and love as well as very concrete suggestions and commands how to live.
Rules cannot generate life. But rules can help. It is love which is to be the center of our life. Yet, in all of this love needs a clear view what is helpful and what leads away from freedom and perspective. We are reading the letter of Hebrews, chapter 13:
1 Let brotherly love continue. 2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. 3 Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body. 4 Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.
5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6 So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” 7 Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. (from Hebrews 13)
Christ Jesus …
Love and hospitality - who can be against that? Honor marriage, that might be more difficult in an environment where all seems good. Do not love money - that is even more difficult in a society where money is in the center of many things. But we are called to come to Christ and live with him - day by day.
Do we realize that God is God, that we have access to his community through Christ Jesus, and that he loves you and me deeply. He is there, in our life. He is there, to be with us, to guide us, to love us, to play with us, to work with us, to live with us.
Life is more than what we have, more than what we wear, more than our fame or our status. Life is so much more! And when we find into the community of God in father, son and holy spirit, we have a free field in front of us to discover his unbelievable spirit and love, the life we were made for.
