Many people do not know what the faith of Jesus is about. So often we are satisfied with a small percentage of insight, though we search for meaning of our life at the same time. But there is more with faith. There is much to discover! There is much to see, to understand …
The Lord …
Have a look at the following sentence about faith, written many thousand years ago in the Psalms, but yet very much alive today. It can be a key to my own understanding of faith, to my own access into a world beyond:
For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. (Psalm 100, Verse 5)
What is it about? It is about the Lord. It is about his love, which is there forever. It has been from the beginning of time. It is above time, but also in time. He is there, in my time. He is there, in my life! God is not an idea. He is not a rule. He is a living being, the eternal living creator! He is the one who is there …
The Lord is Good …
When we talk about faith, we talk about getting to know the eternal God. We talk about getting to know him in a way which is beyond some story, though it might happen through stories, through words, through others and my own questions. God is there, in my life. He wants to talk to me. He wants me to get to know him, to talk to him. He wants a real conversation - yet one which is not like other conversations at the same time.
Clearly, God is not accessible for me like other people. He is spirit. He has all the power, but he has decided that he wants faith, and faith is not based on physical interaction, but on something much deeper. Faithfulness, love, truth, purity … all that is a description of the character of God. It is what you can experience when you start to get to know him.
So how do you start to get to know God? There are various things you might start with. Why do you not ask him to come into your life? You can pray, just talk to him. And then find Christians to look into the biblical books together with them. Let them explain their understanding, and develop your own insight. God has chosen to talk to you through the biblical books, they are full of his spirit, of his truth, of his wisdom.
