Am I good enough? ...

Thursday, Oct 25, 2018. I heard a song talking about thoughts of doubt. Am I enough? What about my weakness? What about my failures. I cannot do much. Can I stand before men and before God? These are very reasonable questions. Very personal questions, but typical - you are not alone with these questions. We all have them, if we do not suppress them.

What does God say about the weak? It is interesting to hear. Our society celebrates the strong, day by day. We need the best. We need to be strong. We need to be the first. America first. Italy first. Hungary first. China first. But what is a good way? Please, read the following passage from an old prophet, from Ezechiel:

20 “Therefore, thus says the Lord God to them: Behold, I, I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep. 21 Because you push with side and shoulder, and thrust at all the weak with your horns, till you have scattered them abroad, 22 I will rescue my flock; they shall no longer be a prey. And I will judge between sheep and sheep. 23 And I will set up over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he shall feed them: he shall feed them and be their shepherd. 24 And I, the Lord, will be their God, and my servant David shall be prince among them. I am the Lord; I have spoken. (Ezech 34, 20ff)

God has a different idea of strong and weak. He has a different understanding of who is good and who is not as good. It is not strength, performance, effectiveness and efficiency which would be his scales to judge. No. He has a different idea. And somehow humans know. They have known from the very beginning. They know today - it is reflected in political discussions, left and right, everywhere!

Sheep …

God will rescue his flock. Please, consider the idea about the world which is reflected in these lines. It is about an eternal God and father, who cares about individual people. He cares about those, who belong to him. They belong to him by faith, their heart is his. It is not strength, or power, or any ability to destroy others. His victory is different.

Am I enought? Yes, I am enough, since he loves me, he made me, he wants me. Nothing else is needed. The foundation of life is not strength, not natural selection, but love. Some evolutionary biologists try to explain love as a simple tool of evolution. But if this would be true, it would mean that love would be stronger than any other force or strength. And it is! Love will lead to justice, to support, to help, to prosperity.

Am I enough? I think you have a friend, an eternal friend and helper. It is the Lord. He wants you. He is waiting for you. Perhaps you know him already. Perhaps you do not know him yet. But in any case, you have an eternal friend - what would be better to know? Yes, you are enough just as you are, since you are enough for him, for your saviour and friend!
