Monday, March 16, 2009. How satisfied are you with your current job, with the work you do on a daily basis? Perhaps you are fine currently? There are many people who seem to have a good job, but when you start to talk to them all the difficulties and problems come to the surface which cause difficulties on a daily basis. Teachers face the trouble of ill-behaved children and many demanding hours in front of large groups every day. People in production are under pressure to provide high quality in a rhythm given by a machine - with very little appreciation for what they do. They serve more as a kind of “human” robot than as someone who has character, creativity and personality. There are also various pressures we all face today: the pressure to increase sales, to bring in funding, to establish new contracts etc etc.

God wants us to find his joy. “Do not be afraid!” is one of the key sentences we hear in the New Testament. Joy is announced and found by many people in Jesus, the Christ. I ask myself how to get this joy into the unresolved questions of my life. If I am honest I need to realize that this does not easily come. I cannot generate the “joy of the Lord” just by my will: “joy, now come! Problems, go away”. Some problems do not go away. So we will need to see what the Lord has in store for us.

God will probably have his own time when he acts, which might be very late compared to what we hope for. But without doubt the eternal God cares. In fact he cares much more than we know. He wants us to learn His will, His agenda, His love and truth and humility. We can use the time waiting for his help to get to know him better, to understand why he seems to be so late all the time. When we start to understand, this brings change to our life, … and … and with the change: joy! [R.P., Reading, UK]
