C-Text - Christian Blog.

Thursday, March 26, 2009. In the UK, America, Germany, France etc we live in a society which is often called “Christian”. What is christian in our society, what is not? We will not be able to answer this question quickly. To do this on some sound basis we would need to have a look into what “Christian” means - we need to look into the story of Jesus and his people. To learn what Jesus wants, we need to read and understand the New Testament.

Often people have some broad idea what they think what “Christian” is. Some use it as a synonym for “social”. Helping others is “Christian”. This view has caught some important building stone of the truth, but just one out of many others. It is definitely Christian to think about others, to refrain from egoism and act in a wider context. But what is driving this type of behavior? It cannot be maintained just from nothing! What is it's goal? How is it fed?

Looking into the New Testament is a great idea. But one does not only need to look, but also listen and act. If you just read the words of Jesus, they will pass you like some birds at the sky. Now they are over you, a moment later they are forgotten. But if you start to listen, to understand and to transform his words into your personal practice, a different kind of understanding starts to take place. Then his words will not remain a theory, which you can reject or take it into pieces as some theologians do. With Jesus' words in action faith takes place and changes your life in a much deeper sense. [R.W.E.P., jesusnetwork.eu]
