Prayer Time I.

Tuesday, May 19, 2009. When I think about prayer there are many questions which come to my mind immediately. The topic of prayer is so immensly rich, so extremely diverse, so challenging and consolidating at the same time. You can approach prayer from many different points of view. And the way people practise prayer is again so diverse that we could spend weeks just studying different ways to pray and to relate prayer to your lifestyle.

We can be distracted with many arguments when we talk about prayer. Often people start immediately with the question that prayer might not lead to the desired result. That is a little bit like starting to talk about the latest deadly car accident when we talk about movement and mobility. Instead, we should study a thing with the basic things first. Lets do that!

Prayer is about God! Prayer is about talking to God and listening to God. Prayer is about communication. Prayer is a process, it is taking place as a part of a relation - in fact it is a constituent, an important part of a relation. A relation is built basically via prayer. Relations of humans are built by communication - and if we can use our language it is just the best we can do for any of our relationships!

Prayer is about me talking to God. Some people are more careful, they are aware of the overwhelming majesty of the eternal God. Others are more direct, they just talk to God as a child to its father. Both ways are ok, but the second is better - since God has chosen to be a father rather than a distinct force. He is looking for a relation to us which is like a relation between children and parents in their early years. This is the point where our thoughts about prayer should and must begin.
