Grace 2 - Why God's Grace? ...

Tuesday, June 16, 2010. God does things, he would not have to do. That is one of the key points of the New Testament. And it is fantastic that he does - cause this has important consequences for us.

What does God do? Do you want me to be straight? I will try my best to come to the point. To do this, I need to tell a story.

What does God do?

God is a very active being. He is completely committed to what he things is really important. And in his eyes, justice is really important. Love is really important. And truth is really important. So he is absolutely committed to the truth, to love, to justice.

Things which are not just, cannot remain how they are. If there is no love, then something cannot remain as it is. If there is no truth, then things cannot survive! God cannot let things survive which are not just, loving and true. It is impossible.

That is where grace comes into the story. God cannot let injustice, ignorance and lies survive. Yet, he loved those who were living in injustice, in ignorance, who did not stick to the truth. He tried to find a solution.

He did it

God created justice for those who were not just. He provided a new source of love for those who were not loving, and he generated truth for those who were not truthful and faithful. This is the story of Jesus.

Jesus life is a life of grace. It is a life of grace with respect to the many things he did to the people of his time. But much more than that, it is a life of grace because God created through Jesus all the characteristics for us, which we do not have. From now on, faith in Jesus is enough. Even if we are not just. Even if we did not show love. Even if we did not tell the truth or live in the truth. Even if we had no faith so far. If we believe him, that is fine.

Grace is God's salvation for us. He did not need to save us. The things which mankind did, the way men and women are treating each other, the things we do not tell each other or the lies we try to confirm every day about so many things, would have been enough to let God's justice judge us to be completely incompetent in justice, to let his love judge us as completely incompetent of true love, to let his truth judge us to be not capable of truth in love. But in Jesus he created a new existence, a new spirit, new justice, a source of love, truth and salvation. He did it, because he wanted to do it … because he is love and in love there is grace. ... more texts
