Astonishing ...
Friday, June 26, 2015. We live in an astonishing world. Things are great, wonderful, full of a fascination which we can barely express. Every human is able to see and experience the wonderful world. Where ever you live, and what ever your particular background, personal history or your skills: the world we live in is just a wonder!
Fantastic …
When you walk through the mountains, through forests and pastures: how great. My parents are in Switzerland currently - sending pictures of a the fantastic panorama through their mobile phones. But other mountains are not less beautiful. I remember times to walk in the Rocky Mountains, and several breathtaking national parks. Beauty is everywhere, in Norway and in northern Spain, in Japan and in China. Wow!
But you do not need to travel to the great regions on this planet. Just stay where you are and look into the sky at night. Even with your eye you might be able to see some of the planets - and the many millions of stars. What distances our view can bridge, both in space and time. The light which reaches our eye may have traveled for thousands of years - or just 8 minutes from our sun.
And look at yourself and the people around you. We are astonishing beings. Again and again I admire hands, mere hands. What they can do, what they are able to perform. And the other physical parts of our body are as fantastic, not to speak of the brain, of reason, of feelings, of culture, of music … unbelievable!
The Fingerprint …
All the beauty of this world, its complexity, and its wonders reflect the Lord, the creator, the almighty God. Psalm 8 talks to us, to let us see and understand:
1 To the choirmaster: according to The Gittith. A Psalm of David. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. 2 Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? 5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. 6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, 7 all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, 8 the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas. 9 O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! (Psalm 8)
We have a chance every day: to turn to God and get into contact. We can tell him, how majestic his earth is, and how majestic his glory is, which is above the heavens, but also in the middle of everything, and with us, though we are small, but made in his image.
