Layers of Holiness …

God is called the holy one. His spirit is called the holy spirit. Jesus is called holy, and he calls the people who believe in him the holy nation. Holiness is of tremendous importance for the bible. Why? What is it good for? What does it help us? It can be good to explore what holiness is about. It gives insight, and it develops our personality!

Holiness describes a state where we are in full synchrony with God's “holy” state. God himself is holy, he is good, and he is the only one who is holy. There is no way for us to be whole - if we are not taken into him and made holy by himself. There are two ways for us to meet the holiness of God. One is judgement, the other is salvation. In the book of Revelation we hear the cry:

10 They cried out with a loud voice, “O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you will judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” (Rev 6, 10)

The desire of our soul …

It is one of the desires of our soul to be holy. We want to be fully human, we long to be whole, to be full of goodness. Perhaps we long to get this or that, but more than that we want to be different, holy, pure, …

I do not understand purity in a restrictive way. Perhaps it is important to say this. We can be pure and love. We can be pure and full of energy. We can be pure and full of joy, full of power, full of excitement. Purity in the biblical sense does not first mean to follow particular rules, but it first describes the purity of the heart towards other people and towards God. It is absolutely great to be in touch with this purity.

God is holy - this sentence is a statement as well as a promise. It is a great joy, since God is accessible through Jesus and through the holy spirit, and it is fantastic to be in touch with his holiness, with his goodness and his consolation. ... more texts
