Monday, March 9, 2009. Jesus gives far reaching promises about prayer. “Ask and it will be given, search and you will find!” Have you tried to go into prayer? Jesus also commands to be patient in prayer, to continue to pray, not to give up! Not every prayer is granted immediately. There may even be prayers which are never fulfilled! Paul told us about a No he got for one of his important prayers for personal health.

I have been reading a book of Philip Yancey about “Prayer - does it make a difference”. It is a rather honest evaluation of prayer, of the frustrations and far reaching experiences as well which people have made. It is great to find such type of books as well in the Christian scene, where all the difficulties of unanswered prayers and difficulties of Christians are taken serious, contrasting them with the great experiences of many others.

We need to come to the conclusion that God has decided to listen to prayer and seriously wants to change the world by answering prayer. But at the same time there is a big mystery around prayer. So many prayers, desires, needs and wishes are unanswered. Prayer is not primarily about our personal well-being! It is about us starting to absorb the mind and love of the holy God - in every situation of our life, may it be brilliant or continuously painful.
