My Calling 4 - Whats the goal? ...

Friday, April 16, 2010. We have been talking about God's calling. Sometimes, we would like to have a calling which really fits ourselves. God, call me to become a rock star. Call me to become famous! Call me to become rich … What is the framework and purpose of his calling?

His eternal goals

God has his eternal goals. These goals are good. What are they good for? We can and should ask this, since then we learn a lot about the eternal Lord. His goals are good, because they are full of love, peace, wisdom and mercy. His goals are good because they fit to mankind. When humans follow his goals and develop into his character, then we grow into a state which fits our whole existence. Humans have been made to live in his love, his justice, his peace and mercy. Usually we do not quite live like that, but we are made to be happy and fulfilled by him and his spirit.

God has eternal goals. And he wants us to participate in these goals. He wants every human to be saved, to know him and to live with him in freedom. So we know at least some of his goals. He is an evangelistic God in the sense that he wants everyone to know the gospel of Jesus and to come to faith in Jesus. When he puts purpose into our life, this goal will be reflected in our own goals. We take part in his goal.

Me or him or both?

What is my own role in his goals? Am I only the cannon ball which is fired? In the history of the church there have been some streams which started to see humans as beings with little value, just as a tool of God. God was important, humans were not. They were mistreated. Ordinary humans were not valued highly. Some wanted that God led them to be the most important being, others thought that they are not important at all.

But God has made it clear with the death and resurrection of Jesus, that humans are extremely important to him. Every single human is valued highly. Every single human, you and me and everyone living on any of our continents, is of eternal value to the Lord. Jesus died for him or for her. God died in his son for us. He values us higher than we could imagine. The world is not enough. But Jesus, his son, man and God, is enough.

His calling reflects the value we have to him. He wants us to be with him, and to take part in everything which is important to him. All humans are important, they should and will be important to us. We are part of his love to everyone on this planet. That is fantastic, unbelievable, gorgeous, … just to grasp and understand it might take us a liftime! Let's follow his call. ... more texts
