The offer of the Bible ...

Friday, Jan 21, 2010. Today email spam is one of the most annoying things when you are very active with communication via the internet. I get several spam emails per day, sometimes dozens. The emails contain all kinds of offers … people want to give money to me. Usually, one should delete these emails immediately, the offers are fake and people just want to rob as much as they can.

Offers of the Bible …

The New Testament in the bible also makes an offer to us. This offer is different from the many spam email offers. It is a sincere offer. It is a real offer, a true offer.

Jesus wants to offer us faith. It is faith in God and faith in him. He came to open the door for everyone of us. It is a door to God, a door to a life of truth, trust and love. It is a door to a life as we all want it deep in our heart: to be fully loved and valued, to be treated with full respect and appreciation, to live in an environment where we are needed with our gifts and talents.

Jesus invites us to faith. “Believe in me!” that is one of his calls.

This is written that you may believe …

The biblical texts tell the story of his life. The writers have recorded his words. This has been done that we can read it today. It has been carried out that not only the people of his time, but all people can meet him, can get to know him and can believe in him.

The bible invites us to “true life”. It is - that is a strong image - a life which is established by faith, entered by faith, it consists of faith, one lives in faith and faith will remain forever. Trust is the core substance this life is made of. “God is love” - that's what the apostle John wrote in his letter. God is faith and trust, appreciation, goodness etc etc. We are invited to enter his realm!

Usually, it is a good idea to read more of the bible to make a clear decision about faith! Do I want to believe? What do I believe? I can give an answer when I am well grounded in the biblical texts, when I know the stories and sayings, the parables and discussions.
