What is my relationship to God? ...

Monday, August 29, 2011. Everyone in our society knows some religion. Some people believe in God, they are Christians or Jews or Muslims. Others do not believe in God, they are atheists, but still they have some opinion about what the God could be the others talk about. There are more religions, of course, with more Gods …!

Near or Far Away God? …

What is God like? Is there a God? If yes, who is he? And if there is a God, what is my relationship to God?

It is interesting, we might think that we first need to answer the question of existence, then we might have a look at what is there. But the biblical books indicate another setup. You will only be able to make progress with the question of existence, if you find answers to the relationship quest. Without a relationship to God which is based on faith, you will loose the answer of existence - God cannot be known (in our current time) if you don't want to be related to him!

So we need to find ways to relate to God! We need to start to get to know him. And we need to clarify our own attitude towards him. Do we trust God? Or do we mistrust him? What does he want us to do or to be? What is the relationship of our own will and our own goals to his will and his tasks?

Jesus …

We need to introduce another key variable into the equation. This is Jesus, the son of God. Jesus is the key person in the bible. The New Testament talks about his life story. It tells many stories, talks about his speeches and also about his death and resurrection.

Jesus is the one who shows who God is. It is shown by his personality. It is shown by the way he talks. It is shown by his actions. Also, it is shown by his death at the cross of a hill close to Jerusalem around 2000 years ago. And then, finally, it is shown by his resurrection and by the events around pentacost, by the holy spirit.

Jesus is a good starting point if we ask for a relationship to God. He is God himself, coming to us. In him, we can meet God, the eternal father! Let us have a closer look at Jesus … ... more texts
