Easter is Coming IV: Life is finite ...

Tuesday, April 3, 2012. Yesterday was a wonderful day with a lot of sun. Spring seems to start already, and at every corner we see new life starting. So it might be even harder to face some hard facts which need to be faced.

Hard facts …

The hard facts: life is finite. It is not only finite, but it is even quite finite. It can end any time. We are not promised to live long and healthy. Any day accidents can happen, illness can strike us, and death can be there much quicker than we usually think.

We live, usually, as if there would be no death. We make plans. We are happy. We love our hobbies and - possibly - our job. We go out with friends, we have fun, we do sports … no death in all of this. It is difficult for us to face our own death and the death of people we love. We do not want to face death, we try to avoid thinking about it.

But lets be honest: death can happen any time. Probably you know this anyway, I know it, but still I do not fully live the consequences.

God tells us …

God tells us to take death into account. He tells us to think about it. He tells us to become wise. Death is important, life is finite, we should know!

Jesus tells the story of the stupid rich man, who thought he could store his treasures, but then he had to die that night! Are we so far away from this type of stupidity? I am sure we are not. We try to collect things, but we do not live in wisdom. What are the riches you are collecting, is it fun with friends? Is it science? Is it money? Perhaps some property? Perhaps some special role?

Why not start to become wise today? Why not do one step (followed by many), and take into account that you will die. Go to the Lord, ask him to fill you with his spirit. and then let wisdom grow in your heart and your mind! (Roland Potthast) ... more texts
