The role of dreams ...

Dreams …

I have been thinking about dreams for a while now. What is the role of dreams? Perhaps you know the story of Josef in the Old Testament, the book of “Genesis”, Chapter 37:

5 One night Joseph had a dream, and when he told his brothers about it, they hated him more than ever. 6 “Listen to this dream,” he said. 7“We were out in the field, tying up bundles of grain. Suddenly my bundle stood up, and your bundles all gathered around and bowed low before mine!”

8His brothers responded, “So you think you will be our king, do you? Do you actually think you will reign over us?” And they hated him all the more because of his dreams and the way he talked about them.

9 Soon Joseph had another dream, and again he told his brothers about it. “Listen, I have had another dream,” he said. “The sun, moon, and eleven stars bowed low before me!”

10 This time he told the dream to his father as well as to his brothers, but his father scolded him. “What kind of dream is that?” he asked. “Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow to the ground before you?” 11 But while his brothers were jealous of Joseph, his father wondered what the dreams meant.

Crazy or Real? …

The dreams which Josef had seem crazy. They seem far from reality. But if you read on, you learn about the unbelievable story of Joses and that all these dreams became reality years later. When you read the story of Nick Vujicic, you realize that his dreams could not capture what happened to him. He became a well-known international speaker, an ambassador of faith and hope for so many people.

Our limitations seem hard facts. We are stuck in our environment. We do not see where we can go and how we can escape. But our dreams open another world for us. Our dreams take us out of the limitations … they are a first step towards more.

Sometimes people say, that dreams are not linked to faith. But they are. Even God uses dreams and visions, to guide his people. Dreams are meant to play an important role in our life. Let us start to think about dreams. Let us start to dream … and then be open to let the dreams become reality. ... more texts
