Happyness as an attitude ...

Thursday, Feb 14, 2013. Is happyness something which comes to us by chance? Is it like sun and rain, some days we are happy, others we are not?

Reasons or Chance? …

Sometimes, we might think that some people are happy just because fate gave them more than others. Some do have a family, others do not have one. Some are rich, others are not. Some are healthy, others are not. Is it just chance, to have something or to be happy?

Do we need a reason to be happy? I am happy because I have won the lottery? I am happy because I have found a great appartment? I am happy about a good job? Then, we could combine this “reason-based happyness” with the viewpoint of chance. Since some are given particular things, they are happy, since fate has given them a reason to be happy?! Is that how it works?

You probably will partly acknowledge this type of argument, but you will also feel that there must be more in happyness than just reasons and chance. We observe that some people will always find good reasons to be happy, and they will be happy. Others do never find these reasons, and they are unhappy all the time.

The attitude of happyness - and the Lord …

**

We might change our attitude - and that can change our happyness. It is interesting that our mind and our spirit has a significant power over our feelings. This does not always work directly, but it works by shaping our days, our thoughts, our actions … and altogether we shape our life and our existence.

With our attitudes and feelings we can be completely stuck in our own world - but we can also start to relate to the Lord. We can start to relate to him and to interact with him. We can start to be filled with his spirit - when we come to faith. This will have strong impact on our feelings as well. It will influence our happyness.

When you search for God's view on happyness, in the biblical books, you find many remarks on reasons for happyness. You find remarks about our attitude, the attitude of thankfulness and peace, which comes when we follow the Lord. God knows that our happyness is linked to our reasoning, to our targets, to our self-esteem. It is linked to whether we are loved and accepted and appreciated. All this is needed - and it is provided by the Lord.

But God also askes us to develop an attitude, which picks up his joy day by day - whatever the circumstances of our life might be. In obedience we can search for reasons of happyness - and we will find that his salvation in Christ Jesus is so amazing, that Jesus alone can make us happy. In Christ we have access to a source of strength, of love, of peace and endurance, which is much deeper and much higher than anything else on the planet. Isn't that fantastic? It can truely make you glad today and tomorrow! ... more texts
