Thunderstorms passed ...

Friday, April 12, 2013. We are discussing faith experiences. We have talked about the faith that can move mountains. We talked about faith that saves. We have talked about waves of desperation. Today we need to talk about the time when the thunderstorm has passed.

The rain is over. The winter is gone …

We had a pretty strong winter in Europe this year. It was cold until the middle of April. In Helsinki there was still snow over the past days. In Germany we had temperatures around zero degrees Celsius. And nature did not yet start to grow. Spring seemed ages away.

It can be a faith experience that you are in a winter which seems to never end. It can be a faith experience to be in a thunderstorm, which does not let you find any shelter. But then, one day, the storm is over. The winter is pushed away. We had 18 degrees today, and you could go outside with a light pullover. It is like the sun after the heavy rains. It is like new morning, which you did not expect any more during the night of suffering.

God can resolve severe difficulties. He can change the heart and mind of men. He can open doors, which you did not expect to open any more. He can do much more, than you can ever imagine. And he can give you a new morning! He can push away the rain, the night, the darkness. He can say: let there be light. And there will be light!

Judge it from the end …

**

Sometimes we tend to judge things in the middle of a development. Our feelings give us clear signals. And we think that we know already what we have to think. But it can change very quickly, when time moves on. I was at a conference, and it looked slightly unbalanced after the first two days. But in the end, things were much better, even great. Often, we are too quick to judge a temporal development, when it has not finished yet!

Faith knows this light, after the thunderstorm. Many times I have experienced a bright and warm light which I did not expect any more. I have seen security, where things seemed to endlessly open. I have seen success, where failure seemed to be imminent. Faith seems to have this moment of risk, before it comes to its goal, before victory is clear. It wants the heart to be pure and tested.

When the thunderstorm has passed, your heart may be prepared for the blessings of the Lord. When the night is over, you might be well set for the treasures of heaven. The Lord knows us deeper, than we can imagine. He knows our heart, our mind, our desires and our needs. He knows - and he will not let our hopes go vain! (Roland Potthast) ... more texts
