How to live faith? ...

Monday, May 13, 2013. How do we live what we believe? The New Testament can be quite a challenge. We read about the disciples, which have been called by Jesus - and they followed him, leaving everything behind what had a meaning to them before.

Pull out? …

What is it that has a meaning to us? Is it our job? Is it our family? Is it our partner and our kids? Perhaps we love the city we have grown up in? Perhaps we love our country? We all stick to some things, which are very important to us.

Having things we value is good. It is not bad to love one's job or ones family or your partner and kids. It is not bad to love the city you live in, or the country. It is not bad to be responsible and work for things, which are important to us!

But still, Jesus has called his disciples to something which is deeper and more important than all the things which we value. He has called us to the kingdom of heaven. He has called us into his presence. He has called us to be with the source of creation. With the source of love. With the source of life.

Or stay where you are? …

How do you bring the things together? Some Christians become pastors, others missionaries, others work for the church. But still the majority of believers is not called to this type of activity. They are supposed to stay where they were when they were called by the Lord. They are called to be working in their worldly professions - and show their faith in the middle of this world!

Can you work with full power in your job, and at the same time know that all things on this planet are only temporary - and not the most important things in life? Often, we are faced with the idea that full commitment is only possible when our mind is completely occupied by the tasks and targets of our profession. And it is of course important, to focus and be fully concentrated on the quality of our work.

But God teaches us, that we should put him first. We are called to put his kingdom first - and then do our work in his spirit. I believe it does not need to be one ounce less in quality or dedication, when we believe the Lord and follow him. But we will be more relaxed to find the truly important steps. We will be more balanced with him in our heart. And this can even make us much better with the daily work we need and want to carry out - to his glory! (Roland Potthast) ... more texts
