Silence I ...

Monday, July 28, 2014. When you want to listen, you have to be silent first. When you want to see, open your eyes. When you want to receive, empty your hands first! There are basic laws of physics, which can teach us how to receive, how to be open to things around us, how to be open to other people and to the Lord!

Silence is needed …

In the biblical books, times of silence and times of waiting have a particular meaning. Waiting time is no lost time! Silence is important. Waiting is important. Only when we become silent before the Lord, we find to an adequate attitude! Times of silence are times where we find to our true strength!

Let us listen to Psalm 62:

1 To the choirmaster: according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David. For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. 2 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken. 3 How long will all of you attack a man to batter him, like a leaning wall, a tottering fence? 4 They only plan to thrust him down from his high position. They take pleasure in falsehood. They bless with their mouths, but inwardly they curse.

5 For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. 7 On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. 8 Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. 9 Those of low estate are but a breath; those of high estate are a delusion; in the balances they go up; they are together lighter than a breath. 10 Put no trust in extortion; set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them. 11 Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God, 12 and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love. For you will render to a man according to his work. (Psalm 62)

He only …

There is no worldly strength which could save us. There is no person in this world, who could save us. We cannot save us ourselves! When we try, we will fail. Only he … that is a key point of this biblical song, only he can save us. Only he is a true refuge. No riches of this world can save us … nothing! Only he!

What type of experiences have you made yourself already? Did you experience the Lord as your personal fortress? Did you discover the salvation which he gives to us? My personal experience is that I started with his salvation in Jesus, and day by day I discover more about its deep meaning.

Day by day I learn more about his salvation, and discover his amazing kingdom, a kingdom of truth, love and peace, a kingdom of life and creativity, of support, diversity and true humanity. Indeed, silence opens a door for us - and salvation comes from him alone, great surpassing salvation! (Roland Potthast) ... more texts
