God wants to do good! ...

Wednesday, Feb 24, 2016. Do you know people who want to do you good? Probably you know many of them, at least some. Usually your parents want to do good to you. Your friends want to do good to you. Your husband or wife wants to do good to you. Your kids want to do good to you!

Prepare goodness …

What does it need to do someone good? What does it need? Can you do good to everyone? Perhaps someone does not want to take what you offer? Or someone just behaves in a way such that it is difficult to do good to him.

If you have kids, and want to give them things - their behavior is very important. Even if you want to do as much good as possible for them, it does not mean that they make it possible all the time. If they misuse the good things, you have to take them away at some point. If they treat others badly, how could you continue to do good to them? You will react to their behavior. It does not mean that all good things you do are reward or punishment, no! But it is linked, even if you give out of love.

The bible tells us about God, about the creator and source of all what is. And it clearly describes the deep and unlimited goodness of the Lord. He is fantastic, a humble servant, a giver. God loves to be there for humans, he loves to bless them. He is love, writes the apostle John. And in his love, he wants to bless and help and do good! That is described in Psalm 128:

Blessing to come …

1 A Song of Ascents. Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways! 2 You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you. 3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. 4 Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the Lord. 5 The Lord bless you from Zion! May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life! 6 May you see your children’s children! Peace be upon Israel! (Psalm 128)

The psalm links God's blessing to our behavior. When we fear the Lord, when we walk in his ways, his blessing can come. He wants to bless, that is completely clear. But he needs us to be able to receive. He needs our life to be well set. He needs us to acknowledge reality, which is the power and might, the majesty and precedence of the Lord. He is fantastic, and full of justice and purity! Breathtaking!!

There are far reaching promises here. And it cannot be appreciated enough what is portrayed in lively words. Lord! Our God! We are weak, and often enough our heart is pulled into darkness.
