Monday, March 2, 2009. Every child on this planet has different talents. One can sing nicely. Another child can do mathematics. Others are gifted to play football or run quickly. It is fascinating, to see children learn and develop. We have three kids and they are all so different.

A child is talented when it can easily do what is more difficult for others. Talent is one of the great things in life which God has given us. Genius is if someone can do what is impossible even to the gifted ones. We live in a very rich world where many people on this planet have many gifts and talents. So how do we deal with these talents and gifts?

We should encourage one another to develop our talents. We should practice them, let them grow and then employ them for the good of everyone. This is an important point. The talents are given for the good of the society, for the good of the community. We tend to consider talent as something given to the individual - and it is of course. But we also tend to use it to earn money, to basically be better, faster, stronger than others. Instead of using it to protect the others and to help them, we use talent to fight the others. This is the wrong way, not the way of Jesus.

There are many talents, we should become aware of all of them, they are all important for our community. The talent of caring is usually completely undervalued. How important is it to have those people who care for others. They have the right view to see where a helping hand is needed. They realize that someone is sad or needs encouragement. We only value particular strength. So it seems that we still have to learn a lot to become a human society. [R.P., Reading, UK]
