Nature II - God's Nature and Humanity ...

Thursday, Feb 11, 2010. The relationship of God, Nature and Humanity is reflected in many parts of the bible directly or indirectly. In Psalm 8 it is addressed explicitly:

1 O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. 2 From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenge. 3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? 5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. 6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: 7 all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, 8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. 9 O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! (Psalm 8)

Nature leads the author of the psalms to praise of God. Nature is fantastic, it is amazing, it can guide us to praise. We need to know that all the fantastic things which we investigate when we do natural science are made by the Lord, by the creator and God of the Universe. Yes, he is the “big big God” which is praised in some of the children songs.

Mankind has been given power over creation. We see this everywhere on this planet. Our towns, our roads, the fields we cultivate, the planes and satellites around the earth … they all confirm this biblical song written around 3000 years ago. Today we discuss how we exercise this power, how we can maintain the creation, keep the environmental balance. We should go to God himself and search his guidance.
