In what sense is God beautiful? …

We know about beatiful faces. We know beautiful bodies. But God is spirit - only his son Jesus had a body, he had a face, but we are not told that he was particularly beautiful in nature. On the contrary, that is not what the beautiy of God is about.

The apostles speak about “the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious” (1 Peter 3). God is spirit, and it is gentleness and friendliness, which is in the core of his beauty. It is truth and love, it is mercy and dedication, which is where his beauty is most prominent.

The main focal point of God's beauty is not external, but it is the beauty of a calm spirit. It is the beauty of a pure mind. It is the beauty of something so reliable and trustworthy, that there is no shadow in him. There is a warm realiability, which - when we get a faint glimpse on it - can change our whole life! We will start to put our life into his hands.

Biblical Praise …

**

There is a lot of biblical praise for God, for him as the creator. See that everything beautiful in this world flows from his beauty. He is the origin. He is the creative source and creative power in everything which is, in mountains and the sea, in plants and animals and humans. What he made: wonderful. Brilliant. Breathtaking! Beautiful.

God himself is mirrowing his beauty into the creation. The universe with its endless galaxies, with bright and dark stars, with its geometric patterns and forms … his beauty.

God himself, in Jesus, the Christ. With his speeches. With his miracles. With his healings. With his wit and his words in conflict. His way to the cross, dying for being himself. His death, a death for all of us, a pure sacrifice. Deep ways, much deeper than our superficial logic is able to comprehend! Brilliant. Beautiful. Without measure! (Roland Potthast) ... more texts
