Advent time - let God come! ...

Monday, Dec 15, 2014. Advent is celebrating the coming of God. The four weeks which lead to Christmas want to prepare us for the coming of Christ Jesus. It is a time which is following the message of John the Baptist: prepare a way for the Lord! How do we do this for ourselves? How do we make it happen?

One layer deeper …

Advent invites us to carry out the preparation for Christmas - but it does not mean to buy presents. It talks about a preparation of our motives, of our habits, of our mind and our heart.

You might ask yourself: how do I prepare for God? How do I prepare for the Lord? What is it in my life, that I need to do? We all have to ask this again and again, regardless of whether we do not know about God or whether we are Christians already for many years. His coming was once historically, it was once for us personally - when we came to faith, but it is also a process which takes our whole life!

The advent is linked to his character. It is linked to him being the Holy God, the pure God, the eternal God, loving saviour, trustworthy creator. He is pure - much purer than we could ever imagine while we still live in this world. He is much more trustworthy than we could imagine. When it is said that he is love, fully love, we barely understand the depth of these words.

Let him come …

So it is necessary for us to prepare. It is a preparation and transformation, which touches our full personality. It touches all parts of our life. We cannot stay the same, when we get into the presence of the Lord. He will change us - and for him to make this happen we need to start to prepare for him!

One first step is to open our heart. It means to be open for him - but more than that. It means to long for him, to search for him, to ask for him. It means to pray to him, to ask him to come, to beg him to become an active part of our life. More than that, he should be the centre of our life, as he is the centre of all that is!

Advent time is a fantastic time to get to know God. In Christ Jesus he comes to us. In Jesus he shows his heart. He demonstrates that he loves us so deeply, that he is willing to come into this world, even if that means that he comes into poverty, and that he is willing to die for us. Let him come into our life, into our heart, and into our mind! God, come! Come. (RWEP) ... more texts
