Thursday, March 12, 2009. How do you react when things go wrong in your life? This is a sincere question which touches the lifes of millions. There are so many things which do not work out exactly the way we would like them to go. How do we cope with these things?

Lets us look at some particular example. Assume that there are 50 people taking part in the Olympic games, or choose any name you want for some particular “important” race. All of them have a considerable track record of high achievements in their particular sport. In fact, lets look at the group of runners. All of them have had their particular success in their home country. All of them are good. They all start to get the trophy. But it is clear from the very beginning that only 3 of them can get the medals. Assume that all 50 runners are Christians. They all pray to God to help them. They all go into the race. It is clear that 47 of them will not be successful. It is clear that God will not be able to help them all, as long as we only look at this particular race, at this particular ranking!

So the question here is not, if God listens to prayer. 47 of the runners might think that God did not hear their prayers. 47 might go into a crisis of their personal faith. But the point here is whether we should go for such stupid things as this race. Does God want us to put any meaning in such kind of things? Please, think about it. Today, our society is mad with races of this type. Everything which is not ranked by some race has no value - one might think. But even simple thought experiments show that this is not a sustainable approach in the long run. And Jesus long ago has clearly changed all these rules already! [R.P., Reading, UK]
