Thursday, March 19, 2009. God's presence in my life is of huge importance. I have talked about some points yesterday. There are more of these things - for example the topic of repentance. The Christian faith talks about the cross of Jesus. “He died for our sins!” is one of the key christian statements. If we start to realize what that means, it will fundamentally change our life!

So what is the point? This death of Jesus is a final death and rejectance of a life which lives without God. It is the punishment for all the cruel actions of humans throughout world history - including my own ignorance, my own mistakes, my own egoism. All the missing help I have been to others during my life is judged here at the cross. Usually we do not want to realize our mistakes. Our society teaches us to play some game, to pretend to be strong, successful, bright, good, fantastic, unique, world-leading etc etc. But we are not, only partially, only fantastic in one thing, very bad in many others. So the cross is a point of honesty, of truth which cuts through every facade, it sees through any surface!

Repentance describes the process where I see myself as God sees me - with his eyes of love for my person, but also with his eyes of truth for my devastating situation as a lost human who lives his life separated from God's refreshing love, without his daily grace and attention. Repentence enables me to change, to look towards God and to let him help me to get along. With this attitude I will not only be open to God's love for my life, but also I will be enabled to listen to others, to understand their view, their criticism and their demands on my life. And I will be free to respond positively and search for solutions for me as well as the people around me. [R.P., Reading, UK]
